First District Coffee Company Steals our Hearts
Photographer David Braud headed out to Fairview when he heard about the newly opened First District Coffee. He sat down with Elizabeth and Micah to get the scoop on their new space, menu, and live music.
Heading down HWY 100 in Fairview you might be surprised to find that the spot you went for your chicken feed is now roasting and serving coffee. First District Coffee Company opened in February 2016 taking over the building that was previously the Fairview Farm Depot.
Micah and Elizabeth Behan have created quite the little gem of a coffee house. Antique household furniture, appliances, and display cases fill the space. A number of walls are covered with a collage of instruments, typewriters, telephones, lighting fixtures and other strange and wonderful pieces.
Micah roasts the coffee. Elizabeth makes sure the vibe of the place is warm, interesting and inviting. Their menu includes specialties like fried bologna on a pretzel roll and wild boar stew. They’ve also got quinoa, sweet pea salad and panini sandwiches. All your standard coffee drinks are available with some interesting variations and even old fashioned sodas.
When I asked Elizabeth about the shop she told me that she and Micah want First District Coffee Company to be a place that folks can gather to experience friendship and genuine community. A place where folks will experience something special. One of the ways this happens is with their focus on music. In addition to regular shows by the house band, Route 40, they’ve also had the likes of Victor Wooten and other first class players frequent the stage.
It’s a short trip from Franklin, so head out to Fairview and check out what these guys are doing.
