Spring is my favorite time of year. The bright colors, the warm breezes, the bees buzzing around. The only downside? Buckets and buckets of rain. It’s easy to write off a rainy day and curl up under a blanket while you binge-watch your favorite Netflix show (guilty!), but there’s plenty of fun to be had even on the grayest of days in and around Franklin, Tennessee.

For everyone who is ready to stop hibernating, here are eight tried and true rainy-day activities to add to your Franklin itinerary that will surely add a little sunshine to those dreaded April showers.

Shop at some fabulous boutiques including antiques, clothing and specialty stores. Take in the latest Broadway-level production from Studio Tenn or attend any number of events that are always happening at the Factory from the Farmer’s Market to the Franklin Improv All-Stars comedy show.

You may have already taken your besties to a rousing escape game, but nothing compares to LiveMinds Adventure Escape Game: the most elaborate escape game around. The rooms are incredibly intricate and built out like movie sets, as they should be since its owners build movie sets for a living! Nothing like giving your inner-child some attention on a rainy day.

Paint Your Own Pottery at Third Coast Clay

Let your inner artist shine on a dreary day at Third Coast Clay located inside the Factory at Franklin. Choose from hundreds of ready-made pottery pieces and get to painting! Who knows what kind of masterpiece you will create?

Catch a Flick at the Historic Franklin Theatre

In the heart of downtown Franklin, you will find the historic Franklin Theatre built in 1937, home to motion pictures, first dates and, of course, first kisses. This beautifully rehabilitated art deco style theatre not only shows the latest box office hits but old classics too and features live music performances throughout the year. So, snuggle up with your sweetheart or grab a large popcorn just for yourself, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Rainy Day Drinking at a Local Brewery

Rain or shine, a little day drinking is always a fun way to pass the time, and Franklin has some great options that also offer behind-the-scenes tours. Meet your friends for a drink at Mantra Artisan Ales and try some of their unique craft-brewed ales like the Saffron IPA or Battleground Farmhouse Ale. Or take the scenic route to Mill Creek Brewing Co. in Nolensville, TN to taste their classic brews like their famous Lil’ Darlin’ or see what seasonal surprises they have on tap. You’ll be glad you spent the day indoors.

Test Your Climbing Skills at The Crag

For the more adventurous soul, your love of the outdoors doesn’t have to be compromised because of a rainy day. Step inside The Crag to experience the wonder of indoor rock climbing. Whether you’re a rock climbing enthusiast or have never seen a rock wall in your life, this is the place to do it…safely I might add.

Tour a Historic Civil War-Era Home

If you’re looking for cover on a soggy day, why not step inside one of Franklin’s Civil War-era homes and learn a little? Franklin offers four different historic house museums with guided tours that chronicle civilian life during one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Stop by Carnton to experience what was the largest temporary field hospital during the Battle of Franklin. See where over 1,000 bullet holes ripped through the south side of the Carter House property. Step inside the Lotz House to learn how the family survived while the battle raged on their front doorstep. Add to your history lesson by stopping by the McLemore House and learn about the triumphs, struggles and contributions of African Americans in Franklin.

Take a Flying Leap at Above All

Release your inner ninja while you fly through the air from one trampoline to another! Above All is known for their extreme indoor air sports and wall-to-wall trampolines. Try your hands (and feet!) at the trapeze or get your group together for a gravity-defying game of extreme dodgeball. A day at Above All will undoubtedly be the most exhilarating rainy day of your life.
