This one-hour Community Talk Marching Home: Union Veterans and Their Unending Civil War by guest speaker/author, Brian Matthew Jordan, PhD marks not only the 225th anniversary of the City of Franklin, but also marks 160th anniversary of the Battle of Franklin. When Franklin was founded in 1799, little did she or any of her citizens expect in just 62 years they would be asked to choose sides and fight for the future of this nation. At 63 have the United States build a fortification, and at 65 have the Battle of Franklin crash into and through this small town.

Dr. Jordan is associate professor of history and chair of the Department of History at Sam Houston State University, where he teaches courses on the Civil War and Reconstruction, American military history, and the U.S. history survey. A cultural historian of the nation’s fratricidal conflict, he is interested in the human longitude of the Civil War battles and the problem of memory.
