For local flavor, recommendations abound. In downtown Franklin, you can’t go wrong with Puckett’s Restaurant, the Franklin Mercantile, or Meridee’s Breadbasket. These Main Street icons offer everything kids love, from pancakes and bacon to sandwiches, barbecue and burgers—all outstanding, scratch-made options. Plus, each spot has an atmosphere that’s both family-oriented and uniquely Franklin.

The same goes for McCreary’s Irish Pub and Mellow Mushroom, both reliable family favorites that have been around as long as I can remember. There’s even a small arcade connected to Mellow Mushroom, perfect for passing the time while you wait for a table.
If you’re looking for dessert nearby, Kilwins and Sweethaven both offer ice cream and other treats as you stroll through the historic district.
Pro tip: If you’re after something a little more upscale, the Courtyard at The Harpeth Hotel is one of the best places we’ve found for a great meal in a kid-friendly environment.
Another outstanding option for families is The Factory at Franklin, thanks to its many dining choices and spaces for kids to run and play. Favorites include Mojo’s Tacos for chips and queso, Hattie B’s for chicken and waffles, and Fork of the South for over-the-top milkshakes. There are plenty of other options as well, from barbecue and Cajun to gourmet pizza, hot dogs, ramen and more. Don’t miss taking a spin on the Carousel of Dreams while you’re there!
In the Cool Springs area, options are everywhere. Some buzzy new choices include Flower Child and Truce, both healthy fast-casual spots with dedicated kids’ menus. Another favorite in that neighborhood is Sportsman’s Grill, which serves all the sports bar classics: sliders, mac and cheese, chicken tenders and more.
Over in Brentwood, don’t miss Crush Yard, a new pickleball-themed venue with great pizzas, a full kids’ menu and youth instruction programs.
Out in Spring Hill, Awaken House and Southern Baking Co. both have large backyards perfect for bringing the kiddos for picnics and letting them roam free.
I would be remiss not to mention some other go-to Franklin classics around town. For family burgers, Ground on West Main Street and M.L. Rose in South Franklin always hit the spot. For Mexican food, La Hacienda off Mack Hatcher West is perfect for small kids. For older kids, the turf lawn outside Coal Town Public House in Westhaven is fantastic. Plus, the view across the lake offers a stunning sunset.
In general, you’ll find that most places in Franklin are welcoming and understanding of the challenges kids can present, from picky palates to messy fingers. All of the above offer kids’ menus, coloring kits, play areas, stroller parking, games and more to keep little ones happy and parents sane.
