Maury Darby Building (Joe Baugh Law Office)
The oldest building on the square is the red brick building with the pitched roof built circa 1815. Its architecture is Federal style of which few examples remain in Franklin. By the time Franklin was founded, the Federal style was on the wane, replaced by Gothic Revival (a few examples remain, notably the Masonic Temple and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church) and Classic Revival (many examples remain, from here the Courthouse across the square is the best example). Other notable examples of Federal style are the buildings at 224 Third Avenue South and 125 Third Avenue North.
