Old Glory Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is celebrating the 70th anniversary of Constitution Week on September 14th by hosting a Constitution Week Puppet Show designed for children of all ages beginning at 2:00pm at the Williamson County Main Public Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue, Franklin, TN in downtown Franklin.

Performances will be held at 2 pm, followed by the annual Constitution Bell Ringing at 3 pm. and 2nd show at 3:30 pm. Constitution games and puzzles, making cards for our veterans and refreshments will all be part of the afternoon.

“The show, entitled “Paper & Pen – Mice & Men, A Constitution Tale,” is about the United States Constitution, four famous framers of the Constitution – George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton – and two furry mice who keep getting in their way,” said Cheryl Maler, Regent, Old Glory Chapter, DAR who is also the scriptwriter, director and producer of the show.

Constitution Week is a great time to learn more about the United States Constitution, America’s most important document, to commemorate its history, importance, and bring attention to how it serves us still today.

The puppets and play were created, produced, and directed by members of the Old Glory Chapter.

Communities throughout the nation will be celebrating the spirit and meaning of the country’s Constitution beginning September 17. On this day in 1787, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, 39 delegates at the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution of the United States of America. Nearly 170 years later, in 1955, DAR spearheaded an effort to set aside one week annually when Americans could celebrate this iconic signing. After petitioning Congress to set aside the week of September 17 – 23, on August 2, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Constitution Week into law.
