Did You Know Franklin Launched a Scavenger Hunt?

Horses and equine culture have long been part of Franklin, Tennessee’s soul. They can be seen grazing in the fields as visitors drive into town, or leaping over barriers at local equestrian spots and trotting around Tennessee’s only outdoor polo arena here in Franklin. No horse has meant more to Franklin though than the famed Tennessee Walking Horse Grand Champion, Midnight Sun, that called Harlinsdale Farm home.

Visitors to Franklin have the opportunity to see many more horses around downtown, in what may be some less expected places, assuming they can figure out a few clues along the way.

Midnight Sun Scavenger Hunt

The Midnight Sun Scavenger Hunt is a family-friendly scavenger hunt that will take visitors of all ages on an adventure around downtown Franklin; on a hunt for 10 bronzed horse statues, introducing them to historic landmarks and figures that were key in shaping the history of Franklin and the United States along the way. During a search for all 10 statues, you’ll learn about Franklin’s connection to presidents, historic stages, music, and of course about the scavenger hunt’s namesake, Midnight Sun.

More than just another scavenger hunt, the beautiful bronze statues visitors will find at each location were created by the renowned sculptor -and Franklin resident- Janel Maher who’s other works can be found in exclusive collections across the United States, Europe, and South America. It will be clear once the first statue is spotted why these had the honor of being Franklin’s first official public art installation.

The best part about the Midnight Scavenger Hunt is that it is completely free! You may want to have a little bit of change in your pocket though, as visitors complete the hunt they’ll also be passing by all the amazing boutiques, restaurants, and ice cream shops. Searching on an empty stomach is not recommended, so be sure to save time for ice cream too.

There also is no time limit to complete the scavenger hunt. Finish in an hour? Wow, look at you superstar! Take all day? We get it, there are lots of great distractions on Main Street. Longer than that? Well, any excuse for a long weekend in Franklin, amirite?
